The Symposium was co-organized by the Association of Bulgarian Pharmaceutical Manufacturers ( ABPhM ) and the European Generic Medicines Association ( EGA ) with the kind support of Bulgarian Ministry of Health and Bulgarian Drug Agency ( BDA ) .

The forum brought together representatives from the regulatory agencies and the generics pharmaceutical industry from Bulgaria, R ? mania, Macedonia, Turkey, Serbia, Montenegro, Bosnia and Hercegovina , Slovenia , Croatia , Poland ? Hungary and set the beginning of a series of Symposia, the next one to be held by Romania in 2006. The general sponsors of the symposium were the leaders in Bulgarian generics pharmaceutical industry – Sopharma Pharmaceuticals and “Actavis” AD - Bulgaria .

The key points which were discussed by the participants included:

• Managing the Balance in the National Health Policies
• Impact of EU Enlargement on Generic Industry
• Measures to Promote Generic Medicines in EU
• Challenges of the Accession for the National Drug Agencies
• Future environment for generics in South East Europe

The aim of the Symposium was to establish a forum for discussion and exchange of views between regulators and representatives of the generic pharmaceutical industry on fundamental issues and challenges of the EU Accession.
