The Bulgarian Generic Pharmaceutical Association was founded in July 2001 under the name Association of Bulgarian Pharmaceutical Manufacturers as a successful result of our ambition for consolidation of the Bulgarian pharmaceutical companies mutual interests and a new beginning of an organized institutional protection of the Bulgarian pharmaceutical industry as a priority branch of our economy, in the light of the accession process of Bulgaria to NATO and the European Union. Two years after its foundation, the Association of Bulgarian Pharmaceutical Manufacturers was established as the sole branch organization, representative for our pharmaceutical industry, which gained the respect of the state institutions and the society with its active position of dialogue and interaction concerning the problems of pharmaceutical legislation, health-insurance reform and economic
growth.
In September 2008 the General meeting of ABPhM took the decision to change the name to Bulgarian Generic Pharmaceutical Association. Changes in the Statute allow both Bulgarian and foreign generic pharmaceutical companies to become regular members of the Association.
